This year’s alumni game will be held on Saturday June 12 at Hooes Road Park. KO at 3:00pm with BBQ to follow. Team awards to be given out including MVP and Dave Bailey Memorial Scholarship.

SYC West End Wins State Championship!

June 5, 2010: SYC West End beat FPYC 18-9 to win the Rugby Virginia High School Division 1 State Championship. Hard fought game, but our guys played better and prevailed. Flyhalf Joe "Guatemala" Eustace was named game MVP.

SYC West End Beats NOVA 27-12 in Playoff Semifinal

May 22, 2010:  Hard fought victory over a tough NOVA side. We led 13-12 deep into the 2nd half, then scored 2 converted tries in the last five minutes to seal the game.  The Killer Bs lost 5-19.

Practices Held Tuesdays & Thursdays

Practices are held every Tuesday and Thursday 4:00-6:00pm.  Effective April 6, our location is Franconia District Park, 6400 Bowie Drive, Springfield 22150. We will still use The Ditch as a back-up location when bad weather closes FDP.

Rugby Virginia All-Stars Info

Rugby Virginia fields U-17 and U-19 all-star teams. U-17s must have been born in 1993 or later, and U-19s in 1991 or later. All players may try out, and those selected will play in the Challenge Cup Tournament held in Pittsburgh on June 19-20. This tournament features games against local area all-star teams from around the country, and is attended by selectors for the USA Eagles U-20 team.

Rugby Virginia All-Star practices, etc., will be held as follows:

• Sunday May 16 - 1:00-4:00pm at Fairfax High School
• Sunday May 30 - 1:00-4:00pm at (to be announced)
• Sunday June 13 - 1:00-4:00pm at Seven Pines field in Richmond
• Week of June 14 - Multiple practices at locations in northern Virginia
• June 18-20 - Challenge Cup Tournament in Pittsburgh, PA

Last year several SYC West End players played with the All-Stars, including: Ben Tobias, Will Gates, Mehdi Abida, and Dan Garcia on the U-19s; and Joe Eustace and Robert Tobias on the U-17s. Hopefully this year we’ll have even more representation.

Spring 2009 Season: 2nd Place Finish in State Championship

June 6, 2009 -- SYC West End narrowly lost to Western Loudoun in the state championship game, with final score of 10-13. So we took 2nd place overall.

Spring 2008 Season: 3rd Place Finish in State Championships

June 8, 2008 -- SYC West End beat Western Loudoun 28-10 at the Rugby Virginia championships to take 3rd place overall.

Rugby Scholarships

Collegiate men’s rugby is mostly a club sport, so scholarships are relatively scarce, but they do exist. Check out the USA Rugby web site for a list... click on the left sidebar navigation for Collegiate Clubs, then Club Scholarships. Note that among them is a scholarship at Kutztown University endowed in memory of former West End player Dave Bailey.
